Our Autistic Caregivers Peer Network has officially launched, with its first meeting held in February – and the momentum is already building.
Co-designed and led by peer connectors Beth and Amanda, the network brings together autistic adults (18+) across South Australia who are navigating the complexities of balancing their own needs with those they care for.
Meeting monthly (every third Monday, 10:30am–12:30pm), the group offers both in-person (at the JFA Purple Orange office) and online options to support accessibility. A sensory-friendly environment, optional participation, and tools like a visual “traffic light system” help ensure members can engage in ways that feel right for them.
Early meetings have seen strong attendance, with members sharing how “needed” and long overdue this space is. For some, it has been the first time attending a space that truly feels inclusive.
The group is currently co-designing future topics, with strong interest in areas such as health advocacy, self-care, relationships, executive functioning, and building self-determination. There’s also plenty of space for connection, shared interests, and autistic joy.
We know there are many more people who could benefit from this network, and we would love to welcome new members.
If you or someone you know may be interested, we invite you to email Beth or Amanda to learn more and express your interest.
