Bringing community gardening home

The Dig In Project brought the spirit of community gardening to two people who found it hard to leave home and connect with others.

In partnership with North Brighton Community Garden, a team of community gardeners visited each home gardener about once a week. Together, they planned, planted, and maintained thriving vegetable gardens — sharing skills, stories, and learning along the way.

Each garden was designed to suit the person’s needs and preferences. For one home gardener, that meant a custom raised garden bed; for the other, wicking beds to make watering easier.

The project showed how gardening can grow more than vegetables — it can build connection, confidence, and a sense of community.
