Tessa, who does amazing work representing JFA Purple Orange in regional SA, reflects on what Disability Pride Month means to her.
For me, Disability Pride Month is all about community.
I love learning about disability history and the trailblazers who pushed through to create the path for us.
I love championing and holding hands with my peers, and taking some extra time to understand their experiences.
I love reflecting on what I can do to be a better advocate for my community, and my personal journey of disability.
The past, present, and future of the: colourful, oppressed, fun, complex, dazzling, feared, beloved disability community. This is our month to feel whatever we need to feel. To enjoy, hate, or feel indifferent to. But it’s our choice, it’s our month, and disability is a deeply personal, unique experience.
Happy Disability Pride Month!
