Opportunities Register with Purple Orange
Do you identify as experiencing disability, or do you have a family member with disability? If so, do you want to help us with our work?
At Purple Orange, we do our best to amplify the voices of people with disability and their family members. We do this in a lot of different ways. For example:
- When we run projects, we work with a group of relevant stakeholders, including people with disability, to co-design the process and deliverables.
- When we do research, we ask people with disability what they think (either individually or as part of a ‘focus group’)
- When we organise events, we often ask people with disability to speak or help us to facilitate.
- When we want to speak publicly about an issue or topic affecting people with disability, we ask people with disability to be involved (e.g. through being in a video or podcast, contributing to an article or story, sharing our posts on social media, or speaking to the media).
We are making a database of people who would like to be contacted by Purple Orange when there is an opportunity to get involved in our work. You may receive an honorarium for many of these opportunities.
In our 2024-27 Strategic Plan we have made a commitment to broaden our focus on how disability intersects with various identity factors such as gender, sexual orientation, age, culture, race, geographic location, and socioeconomic status. For this reason we are particularly interested in connecting with people with disability with intersecting identities.
If you would like to be in this database, please fill out this short survey about your interests and availability.
We will try to give everyone the opportunity to help with our work at some stage, but this will depend on our needs and how many people join the database.
We will not share your contact details with anyone outside Purple Orange.
It is OK to withdraw if you change your mind later. Just contact us at media@juliafarr.org.au and we can take your details off the database.
Volunteering at Purple Orange
The main volunteer roles available are for people living with disability to help organise peer networks, or to join committees that make decisions about our work.
If you live with disability and would like to be involved as a volunteer with our peer networks, or if you would like to be apply for a role on a committee, please send us an email to admin@purpleorange.org.au telling us about yourself, why you’d like to be involved, and how we can get in touch with you.
We cannot guarantee we will have a role for you because it depends on what we need at the time, and what skills and experience we are looking for.
From time to time we can offer voluntary placements for students as part of their course of study. If you are a student looking for a placement, talk to your study supervisor, who can then approach us.
