Inclusive Neighbourhoods
Many of us have seen how COVID lock downs promoted community spirit and neighbourliness. People offered support to their neighbours, to elderly or vulnerable residents and community groups rallied to support their citizens, local shops and services. However, COVID-19 restrictions have also resulted in vulnerable people being lonely and isolated.
Inclusive Neighbourhoods aims to reduce social isolation and loneliness among South Australians, by encouraging people to build and maintain relationships with their neighbours, particularly neighbours who may be experiencing vulnerability, by providing information about existing neighbourhood initiatives or how to establish their own.
Neighbourhood initiatives could be anything from sports and society groups, to community gardens, churches, open cafes, through to the organised events such as Park Run.
The below video about Rosefield Community Shed provides a great example of an inclusive community initiative.
